As the country celebrates 250 years of independence, the Yale Center for Civic Thought invited members of the New Haven community to join in a wide-ranging conversation about the history and future of democracy in America.

Historians Joanne Freeman, Professor of History at Yale University and Michael Morand, City Historian of New Haven set the stage for the conversation by sharing lessons from the founding of the country and from the important role that New Haven played in our history.

In a four-part series, participants of all ages from New Haven and its surrounding towns discussed the American experiment in self-government – and what we can do together to help that experiment succeed. The series began with a kick-off dinner forum in Yale’s Institution for Social and Policy Studies on Monday, March 30th.
The remaining three sessions were held in the Ives Main Library and the Stetson Branch Library of New Haven on April 16th, April 29th, and May 4th.
